Racereport by Valentin Lehmann
French Cup was held two week-end ago, the 24th and 25th of August on the nice Besancon track in eastern France. 75 drivers attended the race and this is quite a huge field for a touring car race in France!

Race was divided into 3 classes Superstock, Stock and Modified. 5 free practice rounds and 3 qualifiers were scheduled on saturday, 2 more qualification rounds remained on sunday morning, followed by triple mains in the afternoon. Unfortunately the race started badly as the rain came on Saturday morning when free practices were about to start. Free practices were replaced by open practices, so everyone could try his rain car as wanted. Although the sun came out in the afternoon, the first 2 qualifiers were run under wet conditions, but the third qualifying round was run on a dry track. When we arrived at the track on sunday morning, track was again wet due to the overnight rain, so the first of the 2 remaining qualifiers was run under wet conditions. Luckily the track dried out quite fast and the last qualifying round was run on a dry track again.

Some Xray drivers were very fast right from the start of the race including Jean Delorme, Fabien Valantin and myself in the Stock class, Manuel Wagner, Alexandre Laurent, Remi Callens and Jeremy Limoges were competing in the Modified class.

In the Stock class Jean Delorme's car was pretty fast and consistent, he TQed round 1 and 3, enough to secure the overall TQ. After a bad start to the qualifiers, I made a come-back on sunday morning as I TQed round 5 and drove to second fastest in the 4th round. Fabien Valantin also broke into the A-main thanks to a fast 5th round.

In the Modified class, our drivers, although running fast laptimes were not able to start on the front rows due to very tight results on points. Best placed was Remi Callens, 6th on the grid thanks to a 3rd and a 4th time in qualifying…

Jean Delorme won the first two A-mains quite easily as the guys behind were unable to catch him, then he also took the overall win. I suffered bad luck as my motor burned in A2 and I made a mistake in A3, this gave me a disappointing 5th place overall.

The finals were again tight in Modified, Alexandre Laurent, Manuel Wagner and Jeremy Limoges ended close to the positions where they started, only Remi Callens gained some places due to a 2nd place in A3, he ended up 5th.
